George Stevens, Jr., Millie Perkins and Diane Baker

Alliance for Women in Media SoCal members and supporters will MEET-UP at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Samuel Goldwyn Theater for the 60th Anniversary screening of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK on Monday, September 16th, 7:30 pm in commemoration of the 90th anniversary of Anne Frank’s birth.

This event is presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and co-presented by the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust.

Based on the revered diary and the stage play that was adapted from it, The Diary of Anne Frank follows a young Jewish girl, her family and others who have been forced into hiding in order to avoid the Gestapo during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Featuring Joseph Schildkraut as Otto Frank, and Millie Perkins and Diane Baker in their first film roles, the film examines the atrocities of World War II, as well as Anne’s unwavering optimism amid her family’s harrowing ordeal and brave battle for survival.

Having served in a Special Services unit that filmed and photographed during World War II – covering events from the Normandy invasion to the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp – director George Stevens knew well the horrors of Nazi Germany. Stevens’s work on The Diary of Anne Frank was highly acclaimed, with the film being nominated in eight categories in the 1959 Academy Awards and winning three, including the Supporting Actress award for Shelley Winters as Mrs. Van Daan.

Directed and produced by George Stevens. Screenplay by Frances Goodrich, Albert Hackett. Based on the play by Goodrich and Hackett, which was based on the book Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.
